It was such a beautiful, crisp fall day. The sun shone through the gold, orange and rust leaves on the trees, giving them halos like angels. I am my own worst enemy. It is easy to start something new, to start a new career or go to school to start a new career path. It is exciting! I tackle it with enthusiasm. School is fun and I study hard and do well or if it is a new job, I ask lots of questions and do my best to learn the job quickly and efficiently. We all aspire to live the American Dream. To have a nice house, nice car, great job, family. To have people admire us for our prosperity. When we see a homeless person, we assume that person has chosen homelessness because of laziness, drugs or alcohol or an alternative lifestyle. Many people have lost their jobs. When I was toddler I used to talk to mannequins. They looked real enough that I would walk right up to one and say “Hi man!” expecting an answer. When it did not give the proper response, I would stare at it and wait. My mom would tell me it was not a real person and she would have me touch the mannequin’s face and hands. She was the runt of the litter; a Cocker, Pekanese, Poodle cross. She had brown curly hair, long pointy nose, long tail, and a black mask on her face. Even as a puppy she was ugly.
